Question can anyone recommend me a good book for on-location sound recording (dialogue)?

Can anyone recommend me a book for on-location sound recording? Before some mofo tells me that I can only learn this from industry experience, I already know this, but I'd like to get a good book that can also help me along my way. Cheers

that's informative, but the book is way overpriced... some of it is common knowledge but there are some handy tips in there as well.

The trickiest thing in my opinion is camera type, assuming that you are rolling to a camera and not a recorder, or deck, or something of the like.

It's always good to read up a bit on anything ( I like manuals ) as you already know nothing beats trial by fire!

Cheers.

Have any of you read Jay Rose's books? Any good? Digital Playroom: Audio for TV and New Media

Unfortunately I have a really poor local library and bookshop so I will have to buy without flicking through these first (and google books has its limitations)

All your suggestions greatly appreciated

Also go to R.A.M.P.S. (Rec. Arts. Movies. Production. Sound)
on Google:
Discussions - rec.arts.movies.production.sound | Google Groups

once you get past some of the spam, it is the place that Production Sound Mixers hang out.
They also hang out here;
The Discussion Group @ jwsound.net - Index

Jay Rose's books are also a fine resource.

There's also a great book on dialog editing by john Purcell. It may also be worth a read to you. Knowing what editors need to be able to do their job well will make you that much better
