Thats pretty cool... For me though i usually take 16-24 channels when recording live so it would be cool to see that concept integrated into pre amps with more channels also.

Or a small unit which takes multiple ADAT inputs and dumps to WAV on USB hard drive or SD card.. That would be really easy..

You have to buy it used since it's not available anymore from Mackie

Attachment 193690
And like all things Mackie, it will no longer be developed and will be trashed one day.

Yeah, if you don't mind being part of a cult and forget everything you've ever learn about digital audio.

The software is ugly, extremely unintuitive and difficult to learn. The newsgroup is moderated by the designer and a few of his lemmings that discourage and try to distract from any conversation about feature improvements, to the point removing entire threads if any suggestion gets support from the readers. The designer tries to convince potential buyers that Behringer products are as good as it gets for audio quality, in an effort to increase his sales.

Many years ago SAW was a viable option to much more expensive hardware based systems built in Daly, CA, but SAW still sells for $2500. Unlike many years ago, you can now buy a native based system for about one-tenth that amount, with 48 stereo tracks and incredibly feature rich and up to current standards.

I don't think there has been a new SAW user in years, just the old school guys that sunk a fortune into it's development, which is now antiquated, and spend their time on the newsgroup talking about how everything else sucks.

It already has been. They still offer T3 but now they are touting Pro Tools Mpowered and other daws with the new Onyx I series mixers.
It's too bad because it's a really easy to use DAW and worked great until the T3 upgrade. I'm using Reaper most of the time now but if I need to do a quick and simple recording or edit I'll use T2.

i ended up taking a trial version of reaper out with me tonight to a live gig see how it would go with recording 24 tracks at 24/48.. It was running on an old PC laptop, the processor is only a 1.6 single core centrino and its got 1GB ram.. Its my old laptop i had in 2004 and i had 7200RPM IDE hard drive connected exnternal via USB2 for the audio drive.. The whole thing went without the slightest hitch.. It ran very smooth so it looks like i'll be buying a license for it in the next day or so..

I wasnt sure if i would get away with using that old laptop or not, ive got a fairly recent model i could have used but the old one wasnt doing anything so i thought if it works its the perfect solution for that old machine. Which it has so thats been good.. I think reaper being so streamlined helped the situation quite a lot also..

its funny, about 12 months ago i tried reaper on my home system to see what everyone was fussing about and i found lots of little bugs and i gave up on it within 2 or 3 days.. Im still not sure i would mix with it but for tracking so far its been very good.. The Focusrite Saffire 56 i used it with has been faultless also.. Id recommend that interface if anyone is thinking of buying one..

I use samplitude 11.

why, because I own it and see no need to use anything else.

rock solid, stable, great.

I've used Reaper for nearly a year, with a Phonic Helix, and its never given me any hassles. Struggled with the TI Firewire chipset on some PC's, but I've recorded 14 channels for 3 hours quite happily on more than one occasion - school shows & church services.
And it has more mixing capability than I have ability. Still learning from the various manuals and tutorials available for the tool. It works for me.

For backup I run 'meterec' on a very old SonyVaio laptop, it's a LINUX 'console' application, guess it won't get more basic than that; but it works OK.

how many tracks can you record at once on that linux program ? It only looks like a stereo thing.. Ive seen lots of great application for linux but as soon as you need to interface with more specialised hardware its often not worth it..

Number of tracks depends on the hardware, HERE is the manual explaining the usage.
Indeed using more tracks and/or firewire interfaces on linux can be, well, a challenge ...
