Hi, I'm looking into getting in ear monitors to help me when I micing things like acoustic guitars, guitar amps etc. I also want to wear them when I track myself because my big headphones are open backed (I don't like a click track getting into my mics) and I don't like how big and bulky they feel when I am tracking. Finally, I want to be able to use them with my ipod. I was also considering the Etymotic Research ER-4s but they say that they need a headphone amp so I could not use it with my ipod. I don't want to spend any more than about $250 ish. Does anyone have any advise or other recomendations? |

A really great drummer (Randy Cooke) discovered a very cool and cheap alternative to really expensive in ears that I have used; Check out the following links http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...n100133n100129 http://www.shurestore.com/earphones/...es.html#FLANGE First you have to remove the rubber portion of ear buds that come with the Sony's. The tricky part about the whole process is that you have to slip the Triple flange ear buds (from Shure) over the protruding opening (where it transmits the sound). The opening is bigger than the opening of the Shure Flange buds, but it can be done, you just need a little patience. When all is said and done you will have an excellant seal from external sounds and vice versa. The in ears themselves sound outstanding. My friend had a set of Shure in Ears that he paid a fortune for and he switched to this solution as well. Check it out, good luck
