Talking Silent film with live score

I'm on tour with a silent film that we're screening with a live score. A 12-piece jazz band + classical piano.

We have a live sound engineer + a recording rig. I'll take some photos tomorrow, but it looks like they've got 40 channels of Millenia mike pres.

Louis the movie

Louis - Movie Trailers - iTunes

We'll be in Chicago tomorrow (25 August), Detroit on the 26th, Bethesda MD on the 28th, NYC Apollo Theatre on the 30th and Philly on the 31st.

We will then record the score at the Tarrytown music hall in Westchester NY with an all-remote set-up.

If any SLUTZ are going to the show, gimme a holler or send a PM and we'll go have drinks.

We just recorded the score in Tarrytown NY at the Music Hall. Remote Recording services provided the truck, and engineer Ed Cherney came in from LA to record us. Delfeayo Marsalis produced.

I'll start a new thread about this recording session with some pics.

I hope to go to the 5.1 mix in LA later this month.

It looks like you are of to an auspicious start. I am looking forward to hearing the results. Love that big band sound and we get to hear so little of it now. Thanks for keeping one recording.

Smile

Qtrio did the same thing (silent movie live soundtrack).. nanook of north.. check out the clips on qtrio's website in my signature..

Also if you check on youtube you might find them playing with Kurt Rosenwinkel as a guest for this project..

Lately it seemed a bit difficult to find gigs though.. I wonder why (beside the economy).. this stuff is very accessible musicalwise speaking and fun to watch..

Very cool!

Good luck with your project! Looks great btw..

just my 0.02$,

Bests,

Cheu
