Arrow Space for stereo bar.

Hi from Italy, I need help.

I want a spacer (20 mm around) for XY /ORTF.

I have see the DPA DUA0019

DPA DUA0019 0.75 Inch Spacer for Stereo Boom: DPA-DUA0019 Dale Pro Audio

but I understand if is 5/8 thread, or 3/8.

There are an alternative for a 20mm spacer ?

thanks

The easiest, and cheapest way, is a couple of K&M thread adaptors:-

1) 3/8" female to 5/8" male (the 217 "top-hat" version is better for this)

2) 5/8" female to 3/8" male - part number 216

Screw the first to the bottom of the second and you have a quick and inexpensive riser.

See HERE.

Thanks, but I need a spacer, not an adapter. (see left mic)

Jack

Simple arithmetic-

K&M adapter 5/8 to 3/8 + K&M adapter 3/8 to 5/8 = 1 5/8 riser.

(reverse the left hand side and you get a 3/8 riser).

I use it all the time for setting up Schoeps ORTF to avoid plug clash at the back. Cheaper than getting the Schoeps version! (And you need slightly more than 20mm!)

That's *exactly* what I told you.

Screw the two adaptors together and you get a 3/8" to 3/8" riser.

Works perfectly and very cheap.

AEA makes a black threaded collar for just this - it used to be AEA-CP for $8.50 but now I see it's $12.00 here Modular Microphone Array Positioners – Products – AEA Big Ribbon Mics™ Mic Preamps and Recording Tools

John, I use exactly this arrangement for repairing the stripped threads on AKG 85 and 100 shock baskets. I glue the 3/8 - 5/8 insert into the wasted plastic collar and then screw the stud into its bottom. Why do they spoil the ship for a ha'pence' worth o'tar.... Schoeps are just as guilty. What's the wholesale price of a brass ferrule, 0.10 euros?

How cheap do you need? Those two K&M adapters together cost $6 at B&H.

I just asked a technician mate to put a stairstep bend on my cheap stereo bar. This way, there's no parts to work loose or go missing. Total cost - four beers, and in gratitude he also bored a couple of extra threaded holes. :-)

But a lot more expensive than the two K&M adaprors.

The adaptors actually work perfectly and I used these for years until I got the Grace SpaceBar which includes a riser mount in the kit.

I would mount the side grids further out on the clips. That would require moving the clips closer together. I like to have the mics about halfway into the clip. It might work just fine with the clips that close to the side grids but I would be concerned about diffraction. I may be overly cautious.

Yes, but if I mount mic out on the clips, the distance not is 17 cm.

Its a limit of AEA bar. (chap, only 20 euro)

Than reduce a bit the angle and you'll get the same result. It shouldn't necessary be exactly 17cm, 110º, that is just a formality.
