I'm looking to buy a stereo portable digital recorder and using it as a writing tool. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Didn't I see the latest slim downed version of these in Mix for what, $99?

Joel, Are you referring to the Tascam models? TASCAM DR07 Handheld Digital Recorder and more Portable & Field Recorders at GuitarCenter.com. |

When my h4 isn't at hand, I use my Blackberry's memo recorder. I used to think I needed another recorder for spot composing and capturing those fleeting genius ideas we've all lost to the ether at one time or another. However, I usually only record a half-minute or so at a time, and fidelity is not important to me for this stuff; I'm usually recording some hummed bass or melody line or a scrap of lyric. My phone stays with me all the time, so I only have to remember one bit of gear, even if it only records in abysmal 4-bit mono. |

Ya, any of the olympus voice recorders would be fine if you need to record an idea at the spur of the moment. I use my iphone personally. But if you are looking for something fancier, cant go wrong with a Tascam DR1 or even a DR100.

| Actually, as I flip through the latest issue, which if I do too quickly I'll miss it, it seems to be a brand new offering from Zoom, called the H-1. It looks like a tv remote with mics on the front.
