This is one of my favorite sounding jazz records ever - not so much hi-fi as gritty and loaded with "character" - now granted having a band and singer of that caliber is the first and most important part of the sound, but can anyone shed any light on what else went into this record? Here is one of the tunes: YouTube - Abbey Lincoln - Straight ahead (1961)
