Question How do I even look for a video maker?

I mean, I tried every combination of words in Google that I could think of. All I get is some software called Video Maker, a bunch of pages about how to make a video, and a breathtaking video of the Corrs

YouTube - The Corrs -What Can I Do (Clip)

Is there some secret combination of words that'll bring up some people who make videos?

thank you kindly..

What kind of video are you wanting to make? A music video? A tutorial? An advertisement for your studio? A documentary? Do you want it live action, animated, or a combination of the two?

Try Videographer or Video Production services

Or find material you like, usually the makers are credited, then you can do a search to contact those people.
Also look for video montage facilities, they usually have people on board and know a whole lot of directors.

Motion graphics or motionographer are also good terms. Maybe even an ad agency or design firm. Some are more marketing oriented, but some are more production oriented.

This is actually what I do for a living, and back when I was looking for a job, I had to try every name under the sun to find places to apply to. So I feel your pain.

Lame,

Depending on where you live, you might try looking for a Film and Video Production association in your area or state. These folks frequently have some sort of affiliated web presence that gives you info about everyone in your area.

For example, I'm in the Dallas area and there are several of these in Dallas and one that covers the state producers and providers. (In Dallas, Texas Association of Film/Tape Professionals... and also, Dallas Producers Association... The Texas State Film Commission is another source of similar info.)

Almost every state has something along these lines. Good hunting.

Go to this board and post under Jobs (off-topic). There are a lot of indy filmmakers and music video directors there.

Search "videographer" on your local Craigslist and you will find plenty.

HOWEVER...

Be careful. Hobbyists are even more plentiful in the video market than in audio. Unless you know an up-and-comer, expect to pay a pretty penny for a decent video. If you are just looking for archival footage, you can find cheaper, but a nice production requires people who know what they are doing.

Good luck. If you let us know where you lived, you could perhaps get more specific recommendations. Also, ASK PHOTOGRAPHERS. Many will be able to recommend a videographer who actually knows what they are doing.

Woops, I guess I should have said music video.

I see so many really cool ones that it sure seems like it would be easier to run into these guys.

THANKS for all the ideas and suggestions!

******s

Totally agree on the ****** factor - there are more ******s in video than even in music production if you can believe that.

Since you are in Rochester, does RIT have a film program? Call up the department head there, and tell him what you are looking for. He may have an ex-student he can recommend or even a current student looking for a project.

I hate to recommend a student for anything, but having gone through film school myself, I think a student project is the perfect way to get a creative and cool video done on a budget. Your other choices are cheap wedding ******s, or spending a fortune for somebody really good.
