I haven't even started yet, but two of the first things I got after my cases were these:

APC SC450RM1U Smart-UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply

They may not be the best on the market by a long shot, but I'll have 10-20 mins to get power restored or to shut down. I'd rather have a few minutes of noise in my recording than silence. Total and complete silence. People don't typically pay for that, do they? (The complete silence that is...) I put one in the case holding my soon-to-be mac pro (when is that 6 core Gulftown coming out anyway?), Mackie SDR 24 track HDR and Monitor. The other one is in the "small" rig with Mac Mini, 8 channel convertors / pre's & Monitor. The racks seemed to have gotten ALOT heavier since I put them in.

Did I read correctly Steve, that you daisy chain the UPS's? I thought that was a no-no from something I read along the way. Correct me if I'm wrong. I can aspire to a back-up to my back-up as well!

We are not daisy chaining UPS' back to back per say.
I don't recommend you using them in that configuration if they're stepped or modified UPS'.

We have three 30 Amp true sine wave UPS' in the truck which handle all important stuff.
We also have a UPS in some of our individual racks.
If someone kicks out the plug in one of our individual racks we still have a show...

This configuration actually doesn't provide any extra surge protection, but if the main UPS goes the individual racks can keep going. It may not be the most efficient way of handling this because the first UPS could overload while the second one's capacity would diminish, but if the first unit completely fails we will have working racks.

A stepped sine wave design when it goes to battery would cause the second battery to start discharging. I'm going to do a test to see what happens to the second UPS when the first true sine wave UPS goes to battery.
I believe the second UPS should still be working and not discharge.

Just to revive this great thread....

I own a ups myself. Who powers EVERYTHING off of a double online conversion ups? How big is it and how much stuff are you running on it? Wanting to know who is doing what with their UPS's.

Anyone have an opinion on this unit? Amazon.com: Tripp Lite SU2200RTXL2UA Smart Online 2200VA 2U Rackmount UPS (7 Outlets): Electronics

Someone recommended it to me for my studio. I need online because the power in my area is very unreliable.

Recommendations would be appreciated!
