Question mic transportation...

what do you guys carry your mics in? i've got boxes with foam in them, those hard drive case kind of things, cigar boxes with foam, crates, etc...

anybody do anything cool/safe with their mics that's better than the norm?

Buy a pelican case

Keep all mics in their boxes and pull the foam to contour them in the pelican.Great waterproof/shockproof and plain black looking case that doesnt scream "expensive" to the world of thieves.

Can you say, ROAD CASE?

I have a lovely road case/work box for my mics. Its humongous and on wheels. But it holds several hundred mics, nicely. It protects my ribbons, my Neumanns, my B&Ks. It has two serious locks built into it.

For small gigs with lots of stairs, I have locking Gator suitcases with mic slots and custom foam. (Pelicans are cool, but I get more mics into the 'mic slot' foams, and then put the really expensive mics in THEIR custom foam inserts which I have pulled out of their boxes.) You can buy custom pick&pluck foam and put it in a pelican or R&R case and have a nice mic box for touring in a few minutes time.

I've been looking at the Pelican case that's the maximum allowed size for a carry-on bag. It's on wheels, it has pick-n-pluck foam, and it looks like it'd hold a decent number of mics. Seems like a great way to get my mics around. The trouble is, it doesn't have any leftover space for shock mounts or cables. Bummer!
