Hmmmmm.

I dont own either of these systems, but im a sound guy for a band and we have been on tour this summer and have played on both systems. I have never heard of McCauley before the tour and man that shit rocks. I honestly dont know much about what either brands offer but that McCauley system brought the house down for sure. EAW always rocks anywhere i have had the chance to work with that stuff. Id say its a 50/50 between the two

I found a couple 10 in McCauleys for my mids and that is some of the best detail I have experienced. I am trying to think of a great high end tweeter/horn to go with them. Any suggestions ?

The McCauley compression drivers are some of the best, particularly the 9620. Which McCauley 10" did you get?

Man you know I forgot, its been almost a year ago, I will have to look, I know those things are serious boat anchors though, I had the lay the cabinets on there backs to install them, they are way to heavy to mount sideways while holding in place.

I know the feeling. I put together a system with the McCauley 12" 6338, the Beyma 6" MI80, and the McCauley 9620 tweeters. The tweeters are huge 40 lb. mothers, and that's without the horns. They have an amazingly extended response for a compression driver, 500-23k at 114dB sensitivity, sound fabulous, and were very expensive.

I was also wondering are the McCauleys (long term) like the EAWs ? as you know they can handle long periods of peaks w/o overheating.
In other words the EAWs I know were way over made/design to handle pure torment.

I'm not sure how they relate to the EAWs, but most of their woofers are rated at 300/600 watts RMS/program. The tweeters are rated at 150 Watts RMS.

+1!!
I think that 10" mids (or mids/low) are really superb and very detailed! Easy to mix live with some 10" drivers in your FOH..
In that regard I've had great success with the Turbo's NuQ10.. Small speakers.. But seriously, one of the best I've ever experienced.. (I liked them more than some of the D&B and Meyer stuff, which are far from crap).

just my 0.02$,

Bests,

Cheu

I cannot figure where the magic is in EAW, I realize that it takes both the woofer and tweeter to make the pair, I am wanting to lean toward the tweeter and the design of the cab being the magic.

I have a couple FR129Z EAWs
EAW: FR129z
vs
2 full range cabs. 18', 10' McCauley mids and Im not sure what the tweeter are.

The EAW can pass the full range cab believe it are not, it has a punch and detail that is amazing. Something about the low mids, also the highs does not change weather you are in front or almost behind them they sound the same.

The "magic" in EAW is Kenton Forsythe's incredible attention to detail in creating both cabinets to support the job of the product design and excellent active and passive crossover designs for the loudspeakers. There is obviously a difference when bi- or tri-amping as opposed to passive designs.

The 80's and '90s designs from EAW are the basis for the huge design success for d&B, with their passive crossover designs which are yet another leap in improvement, and lighter cabinets.
