Question transportation of gear

hello,

question: a friend of mine asked me to record his music in a remote house in the south of france. The gear that I also use in my studio in Amsterdam would have to be transported to france. It includes a Chandler LTD-1, Neumann U87 from the 70's and KM 184 stereo pair, and a RME Fireface.

All pretty expensive equipment, so I'm am a bit hesitant to drive this stuff 10 hours in a hot car on bumpy roads... It seems like a big risk, especially since I'm not getting paid for it.

Am I overprotective of my gear? Does this kind of equipment break easily outside a contained studio environment?

thanks,
niels

I think you'll find answers to your question, plus a lot more. Many of us move equipment every day in cars, trucks, and vans.

If it was my gear, I would far prefer it in my car than shipping it.

In fact, some years ago I had to drive from England to Luebeck in Germany to do a recording, with all my gear in the back of the car - and it was a very snowy February!
