Thread Starter | Crest XRM Splitter Snake Help!!!!!!
Hello- Please excuse my complete ignorance on the subject but I need some help choosing a splitter snake for my crest xrm. I use this mixer to run a in ear monitor rig for a band. I want to make the FOH's life easy as possible so I thought purchasing a splitter snake would be a nice jester. Can someone please help me in choosing the right setup. As you know the xrm has 12 outs and a splitter box built in. I would like to have a scenario where I can detach the monitor cables from the splitter box and leave them always hooked up so when I do a gig all I have to do is plug it into the splitter box for the FOH guy to do his thing????? I am sort of confused on how the whole splitter thing works. If I buy a splitter snake with a box would I plug one end into my xrm and then the mics go into the box and the other end goes to the FOH snake box?????Is this how it works????? So do I not need to use the built in splitter box of the xrm??? I'm confused???? Someone was telling me I will need transformers on all channels so I will be able to not change the FOH mix when I change my monitor mix???? I'm so confused. If someone could please explain to me how this splitter world is hooked up and how it works it would make my holiday much better. Also any suggestions on a particular snake to purchase would be great!!! Just running 12 outputs no returns. I need help badly!!!!!! |

hey mikeyboy! i think you are ok. don't stress out yet. i've been touring with a crest XRM for almost a year and its been working great so far. unless you need to do something weird, you don't need another split. the xrm has 20 XLR ins and outs (12 mono + 4 stereo). we have a 20 channel XLR loom, its actually got 20 channels in each direction. we just set up the rack near the house monitor board (or near the house snake box if FOH is where monitoring is done). we plug their stage mic lines into our input loom, and our output loom into their monitor board/snake box/etc (where ever the signal was going). usually our FOH engineer deals with this (maybe that's you) but i've watched and had to patch it in once in a while. but yea, you have the split already with the XRM, you just need cables to jump in line and a good place to do it. cool? cool! (OH! and instead of having (for example) send 1 and 2 be your Right and Left send for any given monitor send... theres a way to make send 1 the pan and send 2 the level... that works with all 12 sends.... we just switched over to it and its a little easier to tweak on the spot) i hope i didnt make things worse! good luck! -will |

will- Thanks bro!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey how do you do the pan thing you were talking about? I just bought a 50' snake that I will keep hooked up to my "split outs" at all times for the FOH to put into his end. And after asking around a bit I have decided that pluging the mics right into the XRM is the best over all thing to do. So no need for a snake there at all i guess. |
