Another cheap alternative that actually sounds great : the Fostex LR16. I used one two days ago to quickly record 2 hours of a rock amteur concert. It worked great and sounded awesome IMHO, especially for the price. It's around €1000 new at Digital Village right now. the cons compared to the HD24 or Mackie : it doesn't record at 96k, which is no big deal. It only records 16 tracks, not 24. The pros : it's cheap new with a warranty, it sounds great, very easy to use and doubles as a good live digital mixer with reverb, inserts, aux send etc. It connects to the computer with usb 2.0 and is seen as a standard hard drive so you copy the wav files very easily.
