Sorry, if this has been covered before. I couldn't find the relevant thread I vaguely remember. Anyway, here's the skinny: I'm considering repurposing a pair of my Dynaudio active monitors for a playback system in our (small) den. My particular issue is in keeping everything spouse/family friendly in terms of volume control and source compatibility. Thoughts? Even my old Mackie 1202 seems like overkill for this job. Really, I'd like a somewhat foolproof way to just provide a volume knob and a few consumer-grade stereo inputs -- switchable or mixable. And hopefully on the cheap. All suggestions very appreciated. |

What you need is a home-style preamplifier. I use a Parasound P/LD-2000, which has both balanced and single-ended ins/outs, and a headphone amp. If you don't need balanced operation, a headphone amp, or a phono stage, there are models without those features. For $100-500 used, try Sonographe, Forte Audio, Superphon, Parasound, Perreaux, Acurus, Adcom, NAD, APT-Holman, and perhaps some others I'm not thinking of right now. Audiogon, or ebay should yield some good choices.
