Question Soundcraft MPM mixers?

Just got confirmation on a couple upcoming gigs and I'm going to need more micpres for non-critical things like toms and cue mixes then I'm currently equipped to handle. In the past I've rented but it adds up... think I'd rather buy something this time around.

My search turned up the Soundcraft MPM line... probably looking at the 12 channel but I can't find much if any real information about them. Its said to have the same preamps as the GB4 and GB8 consoles, which I've driven a few times and have no real complaints there.

Its probably either the Soundcraft or a Smackie VLZ3... if I need to drop much more then a few hundred bucks I'll probably bite the bullet and get a case built for my large Soundcraft.

Any other suggestions would be great... I realize that in that $500-800 range there isn't a whole lot differences between stuff but still, it'd be nice to get at least a few hands-on reports and know that it isn't total junk.

Thanks!

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

The Soundcraft small format mixers do indeed have the preamps from their big brothers. I strongly suggest getting the Soundcraft over the Mackie.

I did a lot of recording with a Soundcraft E12 and they are indeed a nice sounding board for the money.

I have used lots of Soundcrafts and none of them have disappointed. I am actually looking in to the EPM line for my next expansion....if only I could afford a Ghost LE
