Talking Film date @ Clinton

I just finished a week of rehearsals for a silent film that will have a live score. We rehearsed at Clinton in NYC. We recorded on the last day to provide the picture with a temp score. We'll tour the picture beginning in August.

Problem, We need a studio in the NYC are to record the soundtrack CD and final score other than Clinton. I just found out that Clinton will close soon. I think they are planning a move but I don't know where or when.

I guess we could go to Sear studio-C, Avatar or Legacy (or whatever it's called now), but I'd prefer a big room. The only big room left in Manhattan is the Jazz @ Lincoln Center studio. In Jersey there is Water Music or the stage at Bergen PAC which is connected to Bennett studios. In Brooklyn there's Systems Two and in Queens, KAS Sound. Am I leaving anything out?

I would give Obie a call at Manhattan Center. The Grand Ballroom can be had for a very reasonable price these days....

All the best,

I'm coming in late on this subject, but...

I'd second giving Obie a call at Manhattan Center if you haven't already.

We've decided to record at the Tarrytown Music hall. We start next Wednesday. I would have recommended you and your truck but I was left out of that decision. Sorry I couldn't get you in there, it would more than make up for that gig in Red Bank.

BTW, Manhattan Centre was my first recommendation.

Let's just hope that the temperature stays warm and the weather holds. Last time I was there the heat banged and clicked for an hour and a half after the boiler was off and the sound of the rain could be clearly heard over the decays. I've never worked there in the summer, so I have no idea about the air conditioning. Street noise is an issue from the stage right side, but there isn't all that much traffic off hours.
It is a great sounding hall, all that wood certainly helps. Great space without a lot of reverb character.
All the best,

I guess we'll find out. I'll post a full report next week.
