Exclamation Roof Collapse in Memphis,Tn - Beale St. Festival

**NEVER FEEL LIKE YOU ARE BEING A PAIN FOR TRYING TO BE SAFE & TAKE YOUR TIME WHILE WORKING AN EVENT***

It's never worth it to rush.
Premier Global Staging decided to try to save time and drop the stage without clearing the stage and not having anyone watching the roof come down, 1 motor failed and did not engage, 3 did......Downstage right motor broke off....... i and my crew were under it.
This could have killed us all, but we somehow cheated death with only minor injuries.
Go slow and be safe first...... saving a few minutes is NEVER worth it, even if all goes smooth.
What is even scarier is the fact that they had bands playing on the same stage 12 hours later...... not sure how they could have even inspected it?

I'm very sorry to hear of this. I'm also surprised that this happened. Beale St. Music Fest has been going on for YEARS, so that's odd that such an incident would occur. Being from the Memphis area, I used to go to this festival every year when I was a kid. It was a big influence on why I got into live sound. Anyway, I'm glad everyone got out okay and you definitely did your part by warning the next guys.

It is at times like this that Hunter Thompson's quote comes to mind. Some say he said it, others disagree. It sounds like him:

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."
Hunter S. Thompson

Question

What's the story?

Google seems to indicate that the first post here was a lot longer than it is now

Thanks Peter.

It really is never good to be a cheapskate with safety - I'm glad you were all OK.
