Question Yamaha Studio Manager

I just picked up an o1v96 v.2 as partial payment for providing sound for the Youth Opera production here in town. I installed Studio Manager on my MBP and had it up and running in no time (once I got all the pieces together). What a treat! It really makes mixing on that board simple. All my information is displayed for each channel as I hit the select button on the board and I can program the "board" with all of my patching, routing, dynamics, effects, etc. at home while watching TV and then synch the board to it at the theater. I had everything set up for 12 wireless lavs before I even set foot in the theater and I just needed to tweak things. I was worried about the learning curve with the board but the software really made it easy. The funny thing is that Opera decided to part with that board because the "sound guys" couldn't figure out how to operate it.

Oh well, their loss- my gain!

My only groan about studio manager is that the M7CL editor is PC only - O1v and PM5D are mac and PC. whats with that?! annoying having to bust out the PC laptop to do the occasional M7 thing, when everything else in my musical life is on my mac...

It's also useful when two people need to work on the same console. I don't recall the name of the setting, but it's possible to make adjustments on the computer while not taking focus from where you are at the console at the same time.

I just wish they would update the LS9 fireware to version 2 to include some of the many features introduced to the M7CL version 2 and version 3, aswell as the LS9 editor to support sends on faders.

Hey guys - I just stumbled across this thread while looking for some information on Studio Manager. I work for Yamaha but not on the development of Studio Manager.

I hope this isn't too spammy for you, but I thought you might be interested to know we have just released an iPad app called Stagemix for remote controlling the M7CL - intended specifically for front of house engineers. You can download it for free here:

M7CL StageMix for iPad on the iTunes App Store

We are planning to extend compatibility to other consoles in the near future.

Rob, not at all. It's actually great for manufacturers and their staff to update us from time to time or at least as much as possible. Thanks for posting.

Cheers RAy

Hi Rob,
I have some friends that remote controll their Yamaha digital boards using a second laptop or tablet and studio manager. I don't know how it's set up exactly and I don't have a Yamaha digital desk yet so maybe you can explain how it's done. I understand it's great for setting up monitor mixes from the stage.

Hello,

Any chances to adapt Yamaha Studio Manager software to work with non-Yamaha gear? I'm wondering if it can be done?

Cheers.

Any Mac "Studio Manager" or anything else FOR A DM2000? Would like to use on an iPAD, mainly for separate monitor mixing.

You could plug a cheap PC/laptop into the board & then virtual desktop to an iPad/Android.

Also, I'm not sure about the DM2000, but search the iPad apps for Yamaha. I know there's controller software for the M7CL specifically for the iPad. A coworker uses it & it doesn't do everything studio manager does, but it's enough to dial in monitors & such.
