Thanks for the input Brian. Yes the AT4021/22s look fantastic, and as their noise level is so low makes them possibly more attractive than the Oktavas. I would just have to make a decision with cardioid vs. omni. Maybe since I am not concerned with mono playback, the omnis would be the way to go (would some sort of sound barrier be useful behind them when used in less than ideal acoustical locations?). And thanks for the CAD mention. This mic looks great as well, and if the 11dB SPL noise level is correct, amazing. Also nice to hear your opinion on the LDCs, this at least tells me that the Large vs. Small issues might be exaggerated. And if I have to spend $500 to get good, solid, quality sound, with minimum effort in post (and maybe in setup too), then it's certainly worth it to me. |

| Hello, Mark! Sorry, I didn't notice that you had already posted in this thread. Yes indeed, the C4s have fit my bill so far, and I'm glad you recommended them because because no one else had brought them to my attention when I was in the market for budget mics. I should also add that their maker (Studio Projects) offers excellent technical and customer support—perhaps not to be taken for granted with equipment in the low-end of the price range. |

Thanks again everyone. After considering all your recommendations and tips, and listening to a lot of samples, I think I'm going to go with a pair of AT4022 (it's still a very hard decision). And I'll be making my own Jecklin Disc to ease/speed the setups. I've read about some of the limits to using a disc, like when the hall demands a very distant placement, or very close placement, but in those cases I could always revert to a spaced pair. |

Hi! This topic seems abandoned. I have little opinion about recording piano with Superlux S241. There's link to another topic with sound sample. Superlux S241/U3 |
