Question Need a Rackable Powered Mixer Recommendation

Hey guys, trying to help a friend and his cover band out with their system. He's trying to eliminate his power amps and go to a powered board. He's got decent speakers and monitors, so those will stay. I'm not so sure on his current potential board selection though.

Here's the story:

The board has to power the mains in mono. He really wants it to power the monitors as well without an additional power amp.

Speakers: Pair of JBL 4691b (200W/400W capacity, 8 Ohm) (Manual)

Monitors: Figure two monitors. Not sure what model they are.

Venue: Medium sized bars/clubs. Probably no outdoor gigs and no need to be REALLY loud. Just needs to be rock solid for small-to-medium sized bars.

The Board: Should have built-in effects. Must have 8+ XLR inputs. No need for more than 16.

His current focus is the Yamaha EMX5014C. (Manual) It has all the features he's looking for, including a "Mono + Aux 1" powered output option. But I'm concerned that it's not enough power. Max on the board is 500W per side at 4 ohms (which can obviously be 500W to the mono mains + 500W to the powered Aux 1 output [see page 25]).

I don't see any info in the manual about bridged mono.

Other potential option I've seen:
Samson TXM-16

Any thoughts on this?

Still looking for some help on this one. My buddy has focused his search a little more on the following two boards:

1) Yamaha EMX5014C
2) Carvin C1644P (I'm concerned that this is underpowered for his JBL's.)

I have also come across the following as potential solutions:

1) Peavey XR1212
2) Mackie PPM1012 (I think I like this one the best.)

Anyone got a thought?

I like the Mackie the best too.
I really don't like powered mixers though. Everytime I have to use one I wish i could have one more of something.
Why doesn't he just get an unpowered mixer with some room to grow and put a couple amps in the same rack. You can get snakes with speaker returns too if you want.

I think it would be better if he buys a nice rack mount mixer and a decent rack mount power amp.

Since he is only using two amps now, a nice dual channel power amp would work fine.

And something like the QSC GX5 is fairly lightweight, while the new Peavey power amps are only seven pounds.

Something like a Yamaha MG206 mixer and a QSC amp would be right at $1,000 and bring a lot of flexibility to the party..except no built in effects.
