Amazing music, nicely recorded, beautifully photographed. This made my day. Thanks for posting it.

(If the film was indeed shot in 1970, it was the same year his wife committed suicide, and Evans was in the throes of his heroin addiction, which perhaps explains his gaunt appearance.)

Thanks!

Eddie's bass playing was incredible on this.

This was so beautiful I had to go pull out "Waltz For Debbie" earlier.

Nice. But I wish it was from earlier, and with Paul Motian, who is revolutionary in his own right.

Why would you say that ? Yes, sometimes you get the impression half of the people on these forums think it all began and ended with Dark Side of Moon (I don't), but let's not get carried away. I'd like to beleive that there is actually some diversity here .....

Three of my favorite rare Bill Evans videos:

George Russell and Bill Evans:

YouTube - The Future of Jazz: Billy Taylor/George Russell/Bill Evans

If anyone knows the history of Jazz, than you know about George Russells contribution(especially to albums like "Kind of Blue"). Bill Evans was his protege and who Miles Davis chose to get the modal sound.

Bill Evans in his famous question mark body conifguration circa 1965 Playing My Foolish Heart:
YouTube - Bill Evans-My Foolish Heart

You see 3 things about Bill E:

1) He had very large hands
2) He had a flawless classical technique
3) Because he was left handed he had a killer left hand command of the piano.

My favorite Bill Evans recordings were the mid 60's ones where he was really coming into his own.

And lastly from the Universal mind of Bill Evans creative process & self teaching:

YouTube - Bill Evans - The Creative Process and Self-Teaching

By this time you can see already the ravages of heroin in the swelling in his hands and fingers.

Ah man.... can't wait to get home and check this out. I love Bill Evans, thanks for the link.

A good friend who has a very beautiful phono player has been collecting all his stuff on vinyl. Last time I was at his house, we listend to Bill for 5 hours strait. What a head space.
