suggestions on a UPS ( uninteruptible pwr supply) for a mobile rig...

Howdy! We've got two fridge size racks(12 or so pieces of gear), a couple powered speakers, two headphone amps and a computer. Suggestions, model numbers that would giv us 10 minutes or so of time to save and power down? Or, should we be looking into some kinda gererator situation? Thanks alot, new to the mobile thing. Craig

You need to decide which gear you want on the UPS (computer, drives--you don't want to run everything on it) and determine how much current that gear draws all together. I've got a Tripp-Lite rackmount unit that I've been perfectly happy with so far, and they make a pretty wide range of models. Check out the Tripp-Lite website and find what you need. I'm sure other manufacturers make good stuff as well...

Craigage,

Why not ask the people you got the power from in the first place for an additional 10 or 20 minutes of time before they cut the power? It's a lot cheaper.

If you're gonna go for it. The UPS that is, OVER SIZE it or is it called Super Sized, maybe Biggie Sized. No, no just over size the amount of load you need, so you can get a lot more time out of them.

If you want everything on a UPS, consider multiple units. One for computers, one for all the recorders, then another for everything else. Oh, and remember to Super Biggie Size it :)

But the most important aspect about using a UPS is the safety net it gives you when the power really goes during your only "great" take, recording and/or performance.
