Only pictures of microphones allowed.

Hi Norse, it was recorded in a 9' square, heavily treated room, with the 2 singers facing the double bass player, with the guitar player's amp raised up next to the double bass player. The stereo mic was in the center of the room, set to figure-8 (Blumlien) mid-side, with the two singers right up to it to get that sound. One DPA mic is approx. 1 1/2 feet in front of the double bass, the other the same distance in front of the guitar amp, all very
symetrical between the 4 sources. Since the instrumentalists were technically behind the stereo mic, the Blumlien pattern reversed their positions, when summed with the DPA stereo pair the two instruments sound vaguely in stereo but both in the center, with one singer on each side. The stereo image is reduced to 45% to make it more unified.

Very nice! A lot of these kinds of recordings sound a bit washy to me but this has nice balance between instruments and nice balance between presence and a sense of space.

It can only be Blumlein or mid-side, not both. Do you mean that it was mid-side with the mid mic set to figure-8?

Regards,

Grayson

"Blumlein MS" or "MS blumlein". Means two figure-8s in an m/s arrangement.

I use it fairly often - the difference between blumlein and m/s blumlein can be very subtle. In my tests, m/s blumlein gives a slightly more solid, stable center image.
