I am hoping to plumb the depths of accumulated GS wisdom for information on supporting/recording/hearing symphonic shows at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, IL. I will be supporting a symphonic band performance later this year in this 50 year old, 4249 seat proscenium theater and am concerned about the acoustics and in particular about impact, or the ratio of direct to reverberant sound. Though we typically do not like to reinforce the band, in such a large hall, it's sometimes difficult to achieve the type of impact we desire without resorting to some degree of enhancement. I have not had an opportunity to visit the hall yet, though I hope to soon. I hope to find that the hall itself, perhaps with the addition of a stage shell will be sufficient acoustic support, but suspect that it may need some help. Have any of you heard or worked an acoustic show in this venue? Do orchestras typically use a shell or even reinforcement, or is it possible to go without? Thanks much, |
