Talking I've put together a mobile rig to record bands -- Now what?

So i've put together a little mobile studio to record bands at their practice spaces. I've made myself a website and gotten a few bands to record. I'm charging a little bit, but I'm still a student so it really just enough to make a little money so i can continue to upgrade my stuff.

I was wondering if anybody had an opinion on thing I need to buy and also if anyone had any general advice or things I need to do.

My website is http://andrewmooreaudio.yolasite.com

Thanks,

Andrew

Hellow AndMoore,

Your questions are so broad, it evokes another question:

What do you want to do?

When you come up with a plan and visoin, get specific. As you do this, any purchases that need made will become more clear, as will any additional questions (most of which have probably been addressed on this board).

A quick look at your gear list doesn't show any dedicated preamps. A high-end stereo pre might be a good thing to consider.

Thanks for the replies. To be clear, I'm not looking to make a ton of money, if any, off of this. It's more of a hobby that can provide me some extra cash that I can apply towards new gear while I'm on summer break.

You've gotten a few bands to record. That's a great first step. Do a good job, they'll tell their friends, rinse, repeat.

Looks like you're going the right way! If you get those bands to come back for more sessions, maybe mixing, it would look good too!
Hang around with bands on a friendly basis, visit their concerts, show interest, talk and tell them you can record! Offer recording their live-gig next time. Before you know it you're on tour with them doing their FOH and recording at the same time!

I'd post some pictures of your rigs. Polish them, put on some nice lights...
Show 'em what you've got!
But that's only me...

Be careful, that's how it starts! Seriously though, I started out the same way, with the exception that I really wanted a career. I did exactly what I stated earlier, and now I'm making a living in "the biz". It can be done, it just requires some creative thinking and a hell of a lot of drive and ambition.

I say best of luck to you!

To add to that and maybe give some actual gear advise,

Bring whatever you have. At least in the beginning, and even if it's WAY more than you think you'll use. Take notice of how often and which pieces are being used. If a lot, then you need it, keep it in the rig. If never, then leave it home. If sometimes, then it's your call whether or not you need it every time. And if you find yourself saying, "man, I really wish I had a ____ " then you know what you need to buy.

One rule I've found with mobile is that it's way better to have too much than not enough. When you find the right balance, your rig will be set and your back will thank you.

Hope this helps,
-Michael
