Talking Live venue acoustics

Perhaps one of you gearslutz can answer a debate I have going with a part time A2.

Assuming that an indoor venue is filled to capacity,
I say that a well dressed crowd (furs, scarves, suits, hats) has a different effect on the venue's acoustics than a casually dressed crowd (shorts and T-shirts).

My reasoning here is that there will be more absorption from the extra layers of clothes and the nature of fluffy jackets and scarves and the like. One person, well dressed or casually dressed, may not make a measurable difference in a small controlled test, but multiplied by hundreds of people in close proximity to each other, and I predict an audible difference.

What say you?

Yeah, of course. Take that one step further: 500 90lb kids vs. 500 200lb bikers... Now put those bikers in the fur coats and scarves and you've got yourself a lot of absorption! Of course, muscle will probably absorb at lower frequencies than fat because it's denser, so take BMI into consideration when SMAART'ing the room...

It actually depends upon the percentage of the total volume of air...in an smaller arena with a lower ceiling the overall percentage of volume of air represented by the fur bearing clientele will be greater and have a more marked effect on the acoustic signature of the space, not to mention the inherent olfactory differences. As ears and noses are interconnected via the sinus passages, a sinusoidal wave generator can be used in conjunction with a dummy head and a bearskin rug to accurately predict the differences presented by the variances in the materials present.

As a matter of fact, the closer you get to the Arctic Circle the more pronounced the effect of heavy fur clothing on the acoustics of a space. This is due both to the necessary predominance of warmer clothing made from freshly trapped animals (PETA warning) and the difference in atmospheric pressure due to the ambient air temperature....see Boyle's Law on the inter-relation of gasses, temperature, pressure and fur.

Okay....I'll stop now

Danny

So now all we need are 500 of these: Neumann KU 100 Binaural Head Stereo Microphone System at FrontEndAudio.com and a couple of bear hunters. Volunteers?
