I've used it once for live SR. It was kind of cool, nice low end. Combined with a Beta 91 to get the snap of the beater. However, it's an old trick to use a reversed-polarity speaker as a microphone. Yamaha just packaged it and put a hefty price tag on it. I have found the Sennheiser 901 does everything that the two mic setup tries to do. The SubKick also doesn't fit in the mic case as well.

afriend recently wrote me this:

"...some black things I used for kickdrums. I built the kick thing out of a old Speaker (8" out of the passenger door of my kid's car"... I put it in a paint can and hooked it up to a little preamp (an old $100 ART). Believe it or not, THIS IS THE BEST huge Bump I've gotten for hip hop and techno... It cost me zero."

Built one awhile back as a DIY project. Used it a few times. Great low end, but I just found i didn't really need it, kind of overkill for the low-end really. So it's sitting here collecting dust. Actually I wouldn't pay what they are asking for the Yamaha, easy enough to build your own if you want to try it.
