Guess it's Tascam's answer to Fostex FR-2. Wonder how they compare as I read somewhere that this will be at around $700 and the Fostex is almost the double.

to me this looks more like Tascam's replacement for the DA-P1.

Nice! finally something's hit the market that's affordable and useful in the location sound dep't too. There was always something killing me about renting a Fostex PD-4: a 10 year old DAT machine @48k/16bit, renting for $100/day, or possibly purchasing one (used) for more than 6 k! - for an outdated, low-res recorder BUT IT HAS TIMECODE!!!!!!!!!!

Right on - I'd like to know what the stock pre's sound like (I'm betting shitty just like the DAP1's), but I assume for dialog it'd cut the muster, but I'm thinking ext. pre's will surely be better.

Thx for the headsup! thumbsup

Just to add a little clarification to this thread, MSRP is $1299 and street price is $999. SMPTE is not generated but can be recorded, and chased, via an input.

Now if it only had 4 channels they wouldn't be able to build them fast enough for the location video pros.
