Talking Recommendations - looking for a digital recorder or mixer recorder with ...

Hi Everyone

Recommendations needed ...

looking for a hard disk or memory card recorder (prefer card) or mixer recorder with ...

8 AES or SPDIF inputs

I will not be using the mic pres, only intersted in recording the digital inputs.

Even thought I will not be using the AD of the product, stickly the digital, does the cost of the unit still affect the digitaly recorded sound quality? Are all AES/SPDIF connections equal, dispite the cost difference?

thank you for your efforts

$$$$

Get ready to spend big bucks.

However, there is a less expensive solution in the wings - the JoeCo Black Box recorder. They are working on a version with AES inputs, BBR1-D. I corresponded with them a week or so ago, and Joe wrote back that they are still several months away from production. Hope you're not in a rush. Looks like the answer to me.

Basically, you input 8 channels of AES digital and it records it directly to HD. Your session can be dumped directly into your studio computer for processing.

The Tascam HS-8 is available now, for $5,500 street price. Unless you need timecode for video productions, it's probably overkill.

There is also a Sound Device 8 ch recorder, about the same price range, but not rack mountable.

The Sonosax MINR82

Hey Phaseshift:

Check out SONOSAX

It is a bit pricey (It is a SAX afterall) but almost exactly what you are looking for and very tiny too. I am just surprised that there are not more of these available.
