Exclamation Looking for Fostex D2424 in NYC area

I shot a documentary in Lebanon 5 years ago, about the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band performing in the Bekaa Valley - working title is "Bebop in Baalbeck".

Our Beirut-based sound engineer recorded our two live shows (about 2.5 hours each) using a Fostex D2424 digital recorder. I have music recorded onto three D2424 hard drives. I need access to that same Fostex model to dump the digitized media into a Pro-Tools environment. Fostex created a proprietary wave form, so there's no workaround and no other gear will work, as far as I've learned.

Anyone with a D2424 in the NY area available for rent or purchase? The band's musical director has the Pro-Tools suite; I just need the Fostex to output the recordings. Please let me know if you have any leads.

Here's a link to a very low-rez version of my promo - thanks in advance for your help:

You might try Jim Flynn Rentals. Jim Flynn Equipment Rentals
Jim would have the best shot at knowing whether such a machine is available or not. Also try:

I do not have a Fostex D2422, but after reading the manual:
Fostex Reference Manual 24 Track Digital Recorder D2424 | ManualsOnline
it appears that you might be able to mount the drive on a computer and extract the files, IF they were saved as WAV 's.

read the manual and see for yourself.

Recording Medium : 3.5 inch, E-IDE type hard disk
Recording Format : * FDMS3 version 3
Save/Load Format : * SCSI, FDIO-1 version 2
* FDMS-3: Fostex Disk Management System-3 Ver.3
* FDIO-1 Ver.2: Fostex Data In Out-1 Ver.2

The D2424 also used Timeline technology, like the Tascam MX2424 and MM8. The [save] function had an option for saving as WAV files but it would have been the responsibility of the recording engineer.

Let us know how you make out.

Danny

Hi,
you can also use the FDMSFS driver to read the Fostex formatted (FDMS3) harddrives (link). It really works great and is very fast.

Hi,
please read this thread and the link above. You only need a computer (or a virtual machine) running Linux and the freeware driver to access the d2424s audio files.

I have a Fostex D1624 that might work for this purpose.
