Talking Pipe-organ recording made with MR816 X

Hello!

What is your opinion on this recording made with Steinberg's MR816 X ?

It's only a test recording i did today :P

https://sakerlagring.telia.se/USER/F...&Folder=675389

I have a pair of DPA 4003 as main microphones, and 1 pair CM3 Cardioid microphones 2 m behind the main pair.

My sound card is not working correctly, there is a noise in the recording.
It is certainly my firewire card that does not work like it should!

Thumbs up

hi Janne,
as an organ enthusiast, i like the sound very much, I was just wondering if there was a great need for the "extra pair". I only mention this, as about 98% of the recordings I have (purchased versions) just use a stereo pair of omni's (for the bass extension), or a Soundfield stereo mic, as one of the UK's main organ and choral recording companies use (Priory Records), and from a purely "amatuer" stand point, I have only ever used a blumlein pair or the "Faulkner" technique, with quite good results

Peter (organ enthusiast)

Hi Janne,
Markus playing is excellent as usual! Could you tell us more about the recording setup? The sound is nice.

We should meet up some time and compare notes...

I think the use of an ambience pair is very useful for organ recordings. Greater envelopment, sometimes clearer imaging I feel are two things that benefit from hall mics (or directional mics pointing away from the source). I've used a hamasaki square for surround ambience in this cathedral with some success.
