Talking PNW - (Or-eee-gun) Fat Fry and Gab Fest - WE MET! ;o)

The PNW Audio Recording Group met as promised. We all got together for a general "meet and greet" and the opportunity to exchange some ideas on the recording business. the music business, a touch of politics, a rating of the service at McMenamins and what is a fair salary for a musician.

We got all this done with a minimum of throat cutting and yelling and actually had a good time. It was great to be able to put a face to the names and get an idea of what the other guys we all about. Three of the four have or had careers as musicians. A great leg up in this business. The span of experience was from decades to years, some full on pro's and one, me, a rank amateur and likely to stay that way.

Attending were Mark Gensman (gzsound), Patrick Springer (springer). Graham Smith-White (jenkel16) and myself (boojum). Sorry about the pic, Patrick. Jim Norman could not make it nor could barbarick. We hope they can make the next meeting.

Patrick filled us in on his gigs and he is quite active at the hot jazz spots in town, jazz being his primary area of interest along with classical. The lad has taste. Mark is a rock and roller from way back and toured up and down the west coast has great stories to tell, none of which can be shared in this forum. And Graham is active in the folk and bluegrass music area. I try to do jazz and classical but a lot of rock creeps iin.

crikey, what a motley crew! i would have fit right in...
sorry i missed it, but it is great you guys got to get together like that. i am sure the world is a better place now. we have long needed a gearslutz political action committee and world improvement consortium. we may not have a lot of real problem solving ideas, but boy, we can make a hella recording of the convention.

Jim - Sorry you could not be there and same for barbarick. Putting a face with the name and some gentle conversation were great.

We did come up with some ideas to improve the world which have been tabled until the group meets again.

No, Mark did not do all those things I said he did other than play in a rock band and record music. He's a regular guy.

Life is good.

Cheers

Yeah...gee whiz..

Who would have thought that talking about my first PA being a 100 watt Bogen head and two University horns would have made you guys blush...?

I'll be more careful next time..

I should note that I am not just active in the folk and bluegrass scene. I mix rock and world music live as the engineer for 2 groups (TapWater and Western Aerial) as well as teaching youth this crazy stuff at a non-profit studio here and working for musician's equity with Fair Trade Music.
