Talking Recording a live Mariachi band

Hey all,

I play in a mariachi band and we were going to purchase some new microphones for our upcoming spring concert. Are there any suggestions as to what we should get? Here's a link to a video of one of our live performances. The video was taken on a fairly low-tech camcorder, so the sound probably isn't that good. But this should give you a general idea as to how we sound live. Are there any suggestions for what we can do to improve the sound quality?

Recording is a lot like NASCAR where speed costs money. How fast do you want to go? What is your budget? What are you recording onto? Where will you be recording?

Fill us in and we can help. We all have opinions here. Sometimes more than one each. LOL

Hasta pronto. thumbsup

Thanks for the questions, guess I forgot what you needed to know e. We were looking to spend around $200 a mic. We just spent around $800 upgrading our speakers and mixer and pretty much maxed out our budget on that. Like I said, I'm looking for feedback on what kind of mics we should get, where we should place the mics, what kind of mic the singer should have, what kind of mic the guitarron should have.

So, we're going to be performing in a large dining hall, a venue similar to the one in the videos I posted. It's got 20 foot ceilings, all wood paneling on the walls, and a hardwood floor.

The instruments in our band are 5 violins, 2 trumpets, 2 acoustic guitars, a vihuela (small, Mexican acoustic guitar), a singer, and a guitarron. The guitarron is a large, acoustic bass for those of you who don't know. I was thinking of putting a condenser mic on it, but would love feedback on that thought.
