Talking Line Audio mics sample

Recently I purchased two SM6i microphones from Line Audio Design and decied to give them a try as mains on orchestra. That was a quick job, I didn't even have a chance to have a rehearsal, so a placement was not as I now wish to be. Nobody expected ultra high quality, good time to make some tests. As there is some interest about Line Audio mics (mostly the little one), I guess some people may want to hear samples.

The main pair was MS stereo, an omni mode in the middle. The first sample includes mains only, no processing. The other one has a touch of outriggers (Schoeps MK2) and Altiverb (maybe too much). All mics went into True Systems amps and Prism Orpheus.

Just to have an overview. Hope that helps!

Hello Empiria:
Thanks for these examples.
I wonder about your MS pair. I hear some unusual wandering of strings in the image, and a lack of low end from the main pair. I'm wondering if the MS pair was properly set up and mixed to stereo. Can you tell us where the violins and violas were located?

By coincidence, I had just looked at the specifications and graphs for them before finding your post.

My hearing and perceptions aren't always on target!

Thanks for letting us hear these mic's which seem to be attracting a lot of interest.

Hi Tomasz,

thank you very much for these examples. Some questions here:

The recordings are chopped off around 12k, how comes?

How is the self noise of the mics compared to the MK2? According to specs it should be the same as far as I know.

I haven't done any tests. I used them on concerts only, where people's noise is much, much higher than mics' self noise. I don't think it would be a problem.

I see. I would be interested to use them in the studio, so for me it would be a valuable information.

Hi Tomasz!
Do you have more samples to share? I'm going to buy a couple of SM6i's and I'd like to have more examples of them at the studio or on stage.
Thanks!

I don't use them too often, I have more mics that I choose as mains. I will try to find a while and grab something to share.

Two samples to share: (1) MS on orchestra with omni in the middle and (2) fairly close outriggers for a choir in omni. I mean flanks only, no main pair! All is dry.

True Systems Precision 8 amp for orchestra (FS in Classifieds) and Grace 802 for a choir into Prism Orpheus, which is broken right now BTW (thanks God, still under warranty.)
