I just saw the KD Lang performance and it was amazing. What a voice.

Although I'm not positive about KD Lang.... I know that most of the performers were actually forced to lip sync, because of the immense broadcast exposure. They didn't want anyone to screw up, but did that ever backfire.

Having said that, the slapback off of the tent at BC Place is absolutely insane. Horrible sound. Claire has done a good job with their temp install there, but it's pretty difficult to overcome those acoustics. We're talking about 8 seconds of decay on a snare hit. Luckily, the broadcast is delayed for the audience so that the video syncs up. For some reason however, the backstage monitors are not delayed... so backstage you hear the monitors without delay, the PA's slap off the architecture, and the crowd all singing the anthems out of time with the video. It butchers all of the anthems, and sounds like the crowd doesn't know the words!

Check out k.d. lang's performance for the opening ceremony for the 2010 Olympics. That's a voice to be reckoned with.

Might be hard to find because the Vancouver Olympic Committee has particularly vociferous copyright police, but I'm sure it's around.

Other than Measha Brueggergosman's performance, I didn't watch anything else.

I am in-session with Measha through this weekend - an all-Wagner program with Welser-Most & The Cleveland Orchestra for DG. What a treat to be working with such great talent!!! Measha's performance was outstanding at the Olympics.

BTW, R-88 (M/S) with RPQ for Measha. Sanken CO-100Ks and Sennheiser MKH-8020s with Millennia HV3D and UpState Audio pres for the orchestra. DAD converter to SADiE. ATC scm-150 monitors. All live to stereo - no net!

.

The board is a modified Studer 962.

The sessions went quite well and recording Measha was the easiest part.

This project will be an early summer release on DG. The final master is due March 30!

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it but Bruce Jackson is the Audio Director of the Winter Olympics, opening and closing ceremonies, etc.. Perhaps none better in live sound (Elvis, Springsteen, Streisand...).. not to forget Apogee Electronics, which he founded.. the Lake-Dolby live sound processor - his design. etc...
