Talking Give Me GAS!

After my last microphone purchase, I haven't looked at anything the same way I used to. I guess I am satisfied with what I have now. BUT NO MORE!! I need you guys to give me ideas to get the GAS started again! I mostly do location work of orchestral, wind symphony, and coffeehouse gigs for what its worth.

After I bought my pairs of Schoeps I stopped, more or less.

Now I've been buying tons of photography equipment to pursue a hobby!

Don't buy anything unless you can for sure pay for it, preferably with income from recording...

i assume you are applying this same reasoning to your expenditures on photography, right?

btw, i spent my career shooting a 4x5 for the library of congress (HABS/HAER) documenting historic architecture and bridges, so i have thrown my share of money at that little "hobby"

If he won't turn loose of his, I am in possession of a rather nice late '80s Toyo View (more similar to the Sinar "F" line than the later Toyos... all brass gears) with a basic set of lenses (Super Angulon 90/5.6; Schneider 150/4 and a Rodenstock 210/5.6... bag bellows, case, holders, 6x9 reducing back) that has had no life other than on my studio shelf since I went digital in 2001.

It can be had, if you are so inclined...

I'm happy with my box full of old Zeiss folders (particularly the 6x9's, one pre-war "Art Decco" style and the late 50's Super Ikonta IV 6x6 w/75mm F3.5 Tessar, plus the cool little Nettax's) and my Canon Rebel XSi 12.2 MP with the additional lenses. I always wanted a 4x5 and lusted at the Toyo, just don't have the time for it now. The Rebel is just so damn handy and the images are absolutely huge in their resolution, makes Photoshop fun & easy.

I'm lusting for cheap, old dynamic mics on Ebay now, got enough condensers.

Thanks guys! I now have gas!

I like the Schoeps. For 3 months wages I'm sure they're going to be amazing.

I like Pepcid Complete for gas...very effective and has a nice mint flavor.

As far as mics: I use a pair of Schoeps w/ CK 4 capsules in an ORTF config between 1 and 2 meters over the conductor's head. I also have a bunch of Neumann KM84's that I use for spot mics. I like the Gefel M910's and UMT70s'. Some of the better AT mics are good, though some of their lower end gear is not. I find the Countryman Isomax II mics to be very useful, but get the shorter cables...the 10 meter cables are very susceptible to hum. They are also a very good value. Crowley and Tripp ribbon mics are now being sold by Shure. Some of them are pretty amazing. In all cases, listen first, then buy.
