Talking The Who and the sucky superbowl

Was it just me or do they need to fire the sound tech for the superbowl? I mean the whole opening and halftime show sounded lacking!

What is your thoughts!

Yep, totally agree... the sound sucked big time. Glad I'm not the guy who mixed, that's for sure. Might be hard to get a gig after that...

I think they need to fire the band too

Some people need to know when to retire from music!

Ha I feel the same way too. I think they should have let a newer band perform... Kings of Leon maybe? The Fray?

OK, tell the truth, Chris: if you get offered the Super Bowl gig when you're 60+, are you gonna turn it down?

Ha.... it's the superbowl and I don't think the idea of half-time is to showcase new music, or even old music for that matter.

The idea is to make half-time entertaining, by showing a band that everyone knows, so people don't change the channel.

I don't think having a band that no one over the age of 25 has ever heard of, like Kings of Leon, is good way to achieve that.

Yeah maybe it ended up sucking (in your opinion..... I didn't watch it), but because it's the who, the potential for it to be good was there.... and thats enough to keep people from changing the channel.

What are you talking about? The Who have retired from music more times than anyone. Hell, they're the only band I can think of who has lost a member to drug overdose after they came out of retirement. That's got to be some kind of an accomplishment.

For 65 year old playas, the band was great. Sound was great too in the context of tv sound. What was wrong with it, you complainers?

They are The Who.

And you guys are right, it's about keeping the people tuned in, which means that the Who are a good option for that. Let's face it, I watched the whole thing so! Good game too, not so close.

great songs, saddled with a poor mix, bad singing and mediocre guitar playing. I felt sorry for Pino Palladino playing with those guys...

I saw Stevie Winwood's song before the game. That had to be the worst TV mix I've ever heard, other than the stuff you see on the local community cable TV station.

I thought the Who's set was okay, although I think Roger was cheating on some of the high notes and going an octave lower. I judge the mix by whether or not I can hear the keyboards, since that's usually where they miss the boat. They did fine. The drums sounded okay too.

What really impressed me was the stage setup. How do they get all that stuff out there in under ten minutes, and get it all to work? That would be an all day setup on a regular tour.

As a bassist and Entwistle fan I would agree. Pino is a great recording artist. But he doesn't even try to play over the top like old John did.

I didn't like the mix because all you could hear was drums, really loud vocals, you couldn't hear the bass and the guitars kept cutting out, sounded like someone overkilled the gate to me!

O well I'm glad it wasn't me!

Cheers

I could barely hear the drums. The vocals were too loud I thought especially in the beginning. Alot of the keys and the windmill chords sounded like tracks to me.

I thought the stage was cool. The performance wasn't bad.

But did anyone else notice what looked like lip syncing at 2:45 on this video?
