Um... it's still going on.

And it's a Super Bowl broadcast. Not exactly club conditions.

I will say this (and I'm likely wrong, as usual): It seems a more "live" half-time show than other, recent Super Bowls.

Love Pino on the bass, by the way.

Let the arguing, flaming, and recriminations begin!

zack starkey rules.
I think they sound good
pete sounds good I think. A little low in the mix
but I have a 14in tv w/ mono speaker......

I think the vocals sound great these guys are like 60+
and they are solid. Daltry is pretty good.
put it in perspective guys...... They are great grandparents

overall it's got the Who vibe. Much more energy than the Kenny Jones yawn era
who's on bass?

sick light show

Rob,

I respect your work, history on this forum, and perspective.

What sucked, in your opinion?

(This isn't meant as a challenge. I don't always hear EVERYthing, you know?)

pre-recorded Daltry? Anybody else see "get on my knees and pray" was totally off on "pray" only? They didn't show him up close for more than a split second at a time... maybe that was the reason.

Also, why did the first song cut off so abruptly?

The guitar tone sounded worse with him hitting random notes off time. Daltry's timing was off too. Kind of gave me anxiety.
I'll give them a break though...60+ i'd be a little shaky playing too. Whatever, they still rule.

Dope light show!

I thought it was a decent showing.
My only critiques would be that red strat, and the decision to use a triplet fill coming out of the drum break of 'fooled again'.
Yah, some prerecorded vocals, not so hot mix...
But pushing a stage of that size onto a football field and getting all the lines and gear and channels and levels to be just right, in 7 minutes.....thats got to be a monumental task. Solid 8 of 10.

Overall - nice show chaps.

And yes, the belly shots were worth a bonus point!

Agreed. . . the multiple wardrobe malfunctions with Pete kind of ruined it. The band was mixed down so low to begin with, and the vocals were super loud. By the end it started to sound good. It just seemed completely unrehearsed, and clunky. I'm stoked it was the Who and all, but I guess I just expected more. When U2 played during the halftime show I thought it sounded great, and they totally had their act together. Bruce sounded pretty great last year as well. It's the Superbowl halftime show, this thing should be rehearsed like crazy. How about a decent soundcheck during the first commercial break and halftime report ? But . . . Pete's tone didn't really bother me

There was a Super Bowl today? Hmmm... I guess I'm out of touch. Not that I could have watched anyway, having no TV, but I was completely unaware of it until I started seeing the posts.

Meledys always kinda suck. They should have just played a few whole songs instead.

I have to say I thought it was incredible. Won't Get Fooled Again amazed me, Zak Starkey is just great. I thought the mix was fantastic and I do think that was live. Usually I can tell pretty quickly if it's not but I think it was tonight. The drum fill following the break on Won't Get Fooled was bombastic. We were watching at a friend's house who has a really nice sound system, and we had it up loud for the halftime show, mix sounded very good to me. I much preferred this halftime show to previous years (my favorite since U2, the 9/11 names scrolling behind them was powerful), and of course, the game was pretty good. Now I'm sad because no football until September...

maybe L.A. had a different feed than the rest of the country, but the intro of Pinball was all vocal, sounded like the acoustic gtr was heard through some other open mics.

It felt real. Some have noted being distracted by 'imperfections', but I liked that it wasn't all clean and precise - made it seem more human, more "Who-ish", more spirited. The imbalances didn't distract me from the essence of the thing at all.

Sometimes I'm fatigued and saddened by the propensity of many to be so swift with criticism. The world needs more charity.

It was OK but there was definitely something not right about the balance. I agree Zak and the tele player were good. It was a little weird hearing modern guitar licks against the back drop of the who, that was a little different.

agreed.

VERY vocal and PT guitar heavy mix here on in the east.

And IF those were prerecorded vocals [ Im voting they werent], they should taken a few more passes.

I felt most of it was live, way more than recent shows, it was a bit rough in spots, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

best,
Sean

The one thing to remember is that The Who created, wrote, recorded all those songs, like what 30-40 years ago?

Do you honestly think any mainstream pop songs written today in 2010, will be iconic landmarks of music and still played 40 years from now? Seriously I kinda doubt it!

I never was a big Who fan, but at least give the merit where it's due fuuck

They're old guys & still doing it... my hats off to them!

I just watched it in all its glory on UTube on Hifi. Sounded great to me especially when the whole thing was setup in an instant on a field and then puled down again. Sorry but I just don't understand American Football (Rugby League and Australian Rules out here.).

It's about the tiny buildups of energy while the players are in the huddle. That energy is released with each play.
Aussie rules spreads that energy out by doing away with separate plays.
Same kind of energy. Different explosions.
