Thread Starter | Help with DMP3 portable rig
Hi everyone, I've lurked here for quite some time, and found your discussions very helpful. Thank you. I record concert videos on location - mostly classical & a cappella music or theater events. I use an M-Audio DMP3 & a pair of studio projects c4s or cad m179s either into XLR inputs in my camera or into an indigo io card in my laptop. For a more portable setup I use a zoom h2 or an iRiver H120. Obviously I'm no match for most of the setups here, but it's OK for video. ![]() Consumer HD cameras are good enough these days that I don't always want to bring my prosumer camera with me. It would be nice to have a more compact and portable option than my laptop. (The H2 is definitely not everything I'd hoped - I bought it soon after it came out, not knowing about the line in issues & the annoying sync problems.) I have a few questions: 1) Is it possible to order or build a battery box for the DMP3? For a popular and cheap preamp, there's very little information about this on line. Does it draw too much power to be practical? Where would I begin? 2) Is there another setup that would be reasonably inexpensive but still allow me to use my C4s/179s, with comparable quality to my laptop/indigo io/dmp3 combination? (Maybe a preamp + a Sony PCM-M10?) I'm curious to hear what you think. Thanks again. |

| http://www.naiant.com/studiostore/mi...mplifiers.html A battery powered 2 ch pre can be had for 300$. The DMP3 was not designed for DC powering hense it will not run on batteries as is. You should talk to Owel from fivefish studios, He designed a battery powered version of his great preamp, perhaps he can assist you with moding.

Thanks, Tomer. I appreciate your response. I take it, then, that the Naiant is the best value for a battery powered XLR preamp? |
