Sounds nice! Only criticism is there appears to be a lack of stereo width (at least on my system), what mic's, techniques, placement and chain did you use? Regards Roland |

Im also interested considering your setup, and did you record 44100 or converted? Otherwise it sounds good - is that a performance or a rehearsal? |

I recorded it in 48kHz as a sound for archive DVD production. Setup is: Preamps: Yamaha AD8HR Microphones: Decca Tree: AKG C414 Omni 1 violins: Neumann KM184 2 violins: Audio technica AE 5100 Violas: Audio technica AE5100 Cellos: AKG C414 Contrabases: Audio technica 3035 Flutes: Audio technica AE5100 Clarinets: Audio technica AE5100 Vocals: 3x KM184 on the edge of the stage. All recorded and mixed in Pro Tools M-Powered with sonnox plug-ins and convolution SIR2 Reverb with Lexicon Medium Hall impulses. | |

Ha!!! I was up for that gig you recorded with 3 guaranteed performances and had to turn it down because I was already engaged for an Un Ballo in Maschera... Small world. By the way, good recording overall.

Kamil, good recording. My only question is that I wonder if the levels between the stage and the orchestra pit are a bit off. I would think the stage would be a bit higher and/or the pit a bit lower. The sound is clear and crisp and I get a pretty good spread. Had I done this job I would not be ashamed to tell folks about it.

Kamil, I think it sounds wonderful! How much of the overall sound is from the Decca Tree, and how much was mixed in from the spot mics? As a side question, how do you like the performance of the AE5100 mics? I would especially be interested to know your opinions of these mics in a solo or chamber setting. Thanks for posting the clips. Brian |

Kamil, what was the distance from your Decca Tree and the stage?? It's a good recording, for sure. I am curious about that distance, though. Fill us in on any other detail you think would be of interest. Cheers |

Decca was about 3 meters from stage edge and about 3 meters above orchestra. Because orchestra pit was about 3 meters down so microphones from decca were on the same level as stage floor. This is the only one solution because microphones in opera houses should be hidden. Stage and light directors hate visible mics ![]() In mix i used about 60% of decca tree on orchestra. All sound from stage were mostly from neumanns on the stage. What I think about AT 5400? I have 8 of them in opera and nothing more except C414 and KM184 better for recordings. So i use AT because i have to. They sound quite good. I use them mostly on spot mics and i think sometimes for recording they are to moody in low end. But sound for this money is good. |
