Here are a bunch of pictures from a Telethon I worked last night. It's been on the air all weekend here in Canada, but I did the overnight shift. The setup was kind of cool.. The event was at a show theatre in a casino in Coquitlam BC. HD Mobile parked outside. Lot's of RF sticks and Lav's, with a large amount of RF intercom/communications. They fake a studio audience, and have a "sweetener" position with crowd loops, claps, etc all cued by a keyboard through midi. I'll let the pictures do the explaining.. This is the truck Audio room, with a Yamaha M7CL console Digicart machine for music cue playback, and ENPS news rundown so we know what the hell is coming next. Video switcher This is the "sweetening" position Some walkies RF World Continued...

Another cool gig report! One thing when you load pictures: I think Steve prefers the upload system rather than the links (he's been known to edit posts so that they fit this format). I think because the uploads will be around forever but if the link breaks then they're gone. I actually like the big imbedded pictures so I can see it on my iPhone, but I see his point. Anyway, just a heads up so if your pictures become attachments don't worry. Edit: Steve, is there a way we can upload AND display the uploaded image in the body of the message? I guess that's a Jules question, and I'm not sure if vBulletin does it but I know some other software has that option. |

Chuck I'm assuming all the FX were coming from the 360? Peace |

I put my pictures up to photobucket and never delete. So unless the site crashes or goes offline, my pictures should be up for awhile. For the most part yeah. The 360 in the audio room was for music playback only. In that "sweetening" position he was using the playlist function on the 360 to build "total announcements".. so when they announce totals every hour there is a large crowd reading along with the hosts.. For the crowd loops and applause though, the guy was using something he custom built and has used for close to a decade I think. I think he had a sampler connected to his midi keyboard for that stuff. He could hold down a key on it, and the crowd would continue cheering/clapping until he let go, and then it would fade.

Chuck, I really appreciate you joining our humble forum. I'd love to see more TV folks around these parts. Furthermore, I love gig reports, especially the live television shoot variety. Keep them coming. Quote:
We have been plagued with lost links, so I prefer if we all upload them to the GS servers. I wish we can add the attachment thumbnails within the copy. I will address this with Jules the next time we chat.

I will keep posting these gig reports! I have many coming, and many in the past that I can find pics for. I'll actually be working Womens' Hockey at the 2010 Olympics here in Vancouver as an A2, so I'll have a ton of pictures from that!

For of us who don't know, could you describe your duties as a A2 in the broadcast world. Peace

As an A1 in broadcast, you are responsible for everything audio related inside the truck, and out to the world. This includes patching, routing, console setup, intercom programming, dealing with encoding/decoding 5.1 streams, and eventually mixing the show for TV! For the Olympics, I'll be an A2 for the Host Broadcaster on Womens' Hockey. The Host Broadcaster puts together an audio/video pool feed that all the other broadcasters purchase the rights to, and then add their own cameras/announcers/graphics on top of. I imagine most of my responsibility will be ice microphones, crowd mics, cabling between all the broadcast trucks, etc.
