Tip 1: Somewhere else here on Gearslutz, I saw that there was someone who wanted to sell a DS 60 for $2,000, a guy in Belgium I believe.

Tip 2: Contact Pearl in Sweden directly. Maybe they have something to offer. They are really nice people. It's a very small company.

Good luck!
I was able to buy a DS 60 through the member on this board. It is all you said it was, and it has a lovely "tone" to it. As a bonus it can be run through the Schoeps DMS software which allows all sorts of single-point mic possibilities. I have not used it as much as I would like. It is too precious to drag into saloons. It has been nice in testing against AB and ORTF and I will be using it more in the future. This board is a gold mine of information and can be a great teaching tool.

Did you ever happen to see that online comparison of the Rode NT4 to the VP88? It was basically a comparison of self noise. The guy used a Sound Devices pre cranked way up to record a room sound that (as I recall) had a clock ticking and (I think) a TV playing low and (maybe) a refrigerator running. Some how - don't recall the details as it's been a while - the volumes were equalized. Well, there was no comparison! The hiss with the 88 was through the roof to the point many of the recorded details were nearly inaudible. The hiss of the NT4 was WAYYYY lower.

This test kind of put me off to the thought of considering the 88 for classical distance micing - though I think there are people who do just that.
