Exclamation CL-9 Linear Fader Board for 788T

Looks like the Linear Fader board for use with the 788 is even closer to release now. Jon had basically confirmed they were working on something like this when we spoke at the AES in October.
Preview It Up-Close: NEW CL-9 Linear Fader Control Surface | Facebook

Location Sound has announced a session with Jon on Feb 3rd to "preview" this new control surface for the machine. Personally, I am hopeful that they have implemented the pan feature in addition to the faders. Oh and full size direct inputs for the other XL3s would also be nice :-) Hopefully someone from the Remote Forum will be able to attend and give us all feedback on this device.

Surprisingly there is no mention yet on SD's own website!

Looks really really nice. Congratulations Sound Devices on such a competent useful design. Its enough to make a non-788t owner a bit jealous.

Can the SD 788 do punch ins?

Been checking these out for a while now, very interested in trying one of these units.
Now with this new fader pack all the more interesting.

Tell me can the can the 788 do punch ins, while monitoring the other tracks as a normal multitrack recorder?

No punch-ins

I don't think that SD ever implemented the simultaneous playback/record capability in its recorders. It can either be in record mode or playback mode. You can't do the track at a time thing. Happy to be corrected on this.

Last October at AES I basically had to decide between the 788 and the Nagra and the promise that the fader board would be created is one of the main reasons why my decision swung to the 788. I am glad that they have come up with a very solid and sensible solution -neither too fancy nor too bare bones.

Not possible. The only field recorder that can do record while playback is the Cantar X2. But it´s not for doing in sync punch-ins like in a music-studio. You can select a recording for playback while recording another. It´s for on-location ADR and/or playback situations.

Can the fader panel be used to create mix-downs?

Karl did you attend? I wonder if the same panel can be used to mix-down the recorded tracks or if it is only for the inputs ... from reading the "input pan" item it seems this thing works only for the 8 inputs.

Would appreciate if you can clarify this.
