Talking De-noising organ surround recording

Hi,
I've recorded a Meassiaen piece in a nice cathedral with a nice organ with 5.0 in mind, and it sounds nice. However, I'm a little annoyed with the noise levels and would like to apply some denoising.

I have seven mics recorded (decca front, hamasaki square for ambience) and edited with Sequoia where I also made some spectral edits to remove disturbances. I have access to a nice M6000 reverb that I add for increased envelopment and timbre.

For de-noising I have access to WaveArts master restoration suite, iZotope RX pro and Sequoia. How would you go about to de-noise with surround in mind? Would you de-noise the individual mics or the dry mix before reverb, or...

All the best

I'd denoise the dry recording of individual mics and then mix and add reverb (if needed).
My (biased) choice is RX Denoiser, algorithm C.

What kind of noise?
Static?
Low freq rumble?
Hiss/white noise ?
dynamic noises (coughes etc.)?

Each would be dealt with differently. Static noise is very hard to come by without affecting the music. Often it is best to leave the noise, even though the technical soul in us is ashamed...musical requirements rule over technical requirements.

thanks for your replies, and sorry for being unclear. What I don't like is the static hiss; I've gotten rid of most dynamic noises such as clicks. I'll experiment a little with RX noise-reduction where needed...

I'd process them all at once in surround if possible, as that's how it's gonna be listened to anyway

You still can have different settings for the different channels if needed.

And denoise before you add reverb.

Some noise is not noise

From my view some noise is not noise. For example if you end up with birds in the church they may chirp and fly which it part of the character of that performance and church.

other organ noises will include the wind supply. Bellows move and creak, some air sounds are much more pronounced on specific stops and other things like the swell shutters opening and closing. Some of these (air sound, chiff and air supply noise etc) are intrinsic to that instrument and need remain.

Just a thought.

Regards, Ethan
