Dave, I am sorry to hear about your problems with the Tascam. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. I never had a problem with mine and still suggest it to be a better solution over the field recorders within a studio environment.

...of course the gain range question is the one that is bothering me a little with the Nagra at the moment, I don't want to have to have to carry an external pad...

Yes it seems from Nagra specs that the full range is 50 dB covered in two 30 dB ranges selected by the mic sensitivity parameter and overlapping by 10 dB. What is the sensitivity of your mic that overloads the LB ?

Really looking forward to it - I haven't used a piece of Nagra kit for 10 years or more and I do miss the ergonomics on other comparable two-track recorders. The recording samples here and on other threads along withe KMR audio banner helped me along. Prior to this I owned a used 702T which was very very good - however certain circumstances meant I had to sell it a few months ago. Once I get up to speed with the Nagra LB I'll have to see if I can dig out some of my old recordings and do a subjective comparison. I think my nostalgia for Nagra will make it sound better ![]() I also found out from Nagra whilst enquiring that they have cancelled the LB-S project (LB without the editing function) - a pity because I expect that function to gather dust with me and I'd rather have shaved a few quid off the purchase price! BTW, I preferred sample A because it sounded 'cinematic' and richer to my ear. The Nagra still holds its own of course, it was still very crisp and detailed and no cause to worry me.

![]() Nagra had planned for a couple of years a 2-channel mic. pre. with the same quality amplifiers as the Nagra VI - this was to make the Nagra VI capable of recording six microphones at once. They have expended this project to have a version with an included recorder. I plan to get one of these - I can use it with the Nagra VI to record 6-channels, or take it out on its own when I require a compact 2-channel recorder. I have been told they will launch it at NAB in April.

Hi John, But is this a complete recording unit? For instance do you know if it will have a headphone amp, internal mic etc of a portable recorder like the LB or will it simply be a pair of pres + ADC and digital outs to feed to the VI? |

There is an option to have a flash recorder included. That's all I know. I think it will be shown at NAB. They did show a prototype in the USA last year and Plush saw it there (his post on this forum is how I learned there was a recorder option with it), so maybe he will be able to say more. I hope they will have it at Musikmesse /Pro Light and Sound in Frankfurt in April as I am very eager to see it. My name *is* on the list for one.
