Can anyone comment on the Gator rack bags? I am looking for something to transport about 3 1U pieces of gear for my portable recording rig. I baby my equipment, so hardcore durable isnt really necessary.

I have a 4 RU bag. It's pretty rugged and has a nice large pocket on the side. The only thing I dont like is the smallish rear opening.

How small? Small enough to make making connections annoying, or just not as wide open as a full blown case?

I own a 2RU unit. The back opens via zipper... While it would be nice to have full width and height access, it is certainly enough of an opening to make necessary connections. And we make a lot of connections, as the bag contains an 8 channel mic preamp, with direct outs, and a mic splitter. Quality of the Gator bag is good, and it is good looking enough not to scare off clients every now and then, when we have to patch in into a device in the control room... Best. Byll |

Yep! I have the 4RU one and did not take a car to school with me, so I end up walking to gigs here in Boston, rolling it along the sidewalk. It has withstood two years of this! Even keeps my stuff dry in the rain. Highly recommended.

I have been looking for an eight space rack case and interestingly enough, a got a catalogue in the mail today from a company called Hybrid Cases. They have some amazing prices on all kinds of cases.. I am in no way affiliated with them and have never bought anything from them..but their stuff looks worth checking out. Hybrid Cases

I only speak from my experience.... I avoid Hybrid cases. I purchased six cases from them based on a catalog that was attached to one of the audio magazines. Buyer beware:

I have three Gator GR-2L (Standard Audio Rack - 2 U), and two SKB 8 U. Gators are rugged enough for my transportation needs and can be stacked. They fit easily behind each frontseat of many middle-sized cars! ![]() It's great to have one empty at hand, so if I need to bring one or two devices for a session, it's really easy. If you compare their materials to SKB, Gator surely is cheaper and a bit less strong - but not that much. But none of them are enough for 'throw-in-the-truck' kind of transportation... ![]() all the best, ave. |
