Talking Standalone digital recorder; NAGRA LB, KORG 1000 or Edirol R4(R44)?

Hi,

I have some 1000 euro's to spent on a digital recorder (to do field recordings and concerts), but I'm doubting between those recorders for several reasons:
- I really want a long battery life for the recorder
- I really want strong pre-amps for the mic's (I would like to put a rode NT4, mini-dpa's and a gunshot on the recorder)
- I would like to have the possibility to put large files on a hard disk or SD card
- I am doubting between a 2 channel or a 4 channel

Does anybody has experience with one of those machines?Any tips?

Cheers,
and wishing u a good 2010!

Lightbulb

I see that this is your first post.

Welcome to the forum.

I bet you did not click on the tags entitled "recorder" or perhaps "portable" yet.
The tag searches I created can be very helpful, especially when you're looking for a specific thing.

FYI, there are many threads about this discuss for your review; all you need to do is search for them via the popular tag search technique or by searching on your own.

Check it out and report back to this thread if you haven't found what you were looking for.

I had R4 a couple of years and it is a good recorder. I find michrophones more important then the recorder.R4 is reliable and offers great price/value.

Outstanding; I'm happy to hear you know how to use the popular tag search feature!

I'm sorry, I only noticed one question asked.
I remember you asking if anyone had experience or tips on the Nagra LB, Korg 1000 and/or the Edirol R4/R44.

I seem to recall a few threads in this forum that discussed these recorders, but...

Perhaps, that wasn't enough information.

In any event, good luck with your quest.

The Nagra LB is the best of the bunch, in my opinion, but a lot more than your €1,000 - it's about £1,600 in the UK.

The Korg would be 2nd choice and the R-44 3rd.

All good value at their respective price points.

Of those, I know (and like and use) the R-44.

Battery life - endless in effect if you use external battery packs. When you swap them, the internal batteries take over without any interruption to the recording.

Preamps are at least what you'd expect at the price, and there's four of them.

The R-44 starts new files without a gap during long recordings.

2 channel or four - well, that depends on which you need.

Which battery packs do you use? I'm looking into getting one.

A search on Edirol's site noted that they recommend Sonic Studios (Sonic Studios). I'm not terribly fond of the battery pack they offer as it requires removing all of the batteries from the unit and inserting this thingy that is in the same shape as the collection of batteries.

I would rather have a pack that plugged into the power supply slot.
