Can anyone recommend a good 3-4 channel field mixer that can do double-duty as a sub-mixer in a music recording situation... without breaking the bank? Any things I should stay away from? Thanks in advance for any help!

It depends what you mean by "breaking the bank". The Sound Devices seem to be the ones most recommended at the moment and is probably the one I would go for, as the Sonosax maybe pushing the "break the bank" button.

Thanks, John. I've been looking at the Sound Devices mixers - they look pretty deluxe. How would you characterize their preamps? Have you ever used them for recording instruments like drums or guitar cabs? The reason I ask is because I was going to buy a small sub-mixer anyway and thought I could kill two birds by just picking up a field mixer with at least 3 channels... Just looking for something that'd sound equally good for music and location recording. Thanks in advance... |
