Thread Starter | Hi, I'm thinking of buying a good pre-amp like seventh circle or DAV bg1 and would like to record these at location with a multitrack, is a zoom R16 a good choice for recording these pre-amps or do I loose to much of the pre-amps quality? Many thanks Marino sorry for the bad English |

| Hi all, I would also like to know more about the sound-quality of the Zoom R16. I don´t expect it´s preamps to be overwhelming and plan to connect better Preamps to it (Mackie-Board, Great River) - does this make sense? I would really like to buy a portable and cheap multitrack-recorder and the zoom r16 looks very tempting. Of course I don´t expect it to sound high-end, but I´m askin myself if it will sound decent if i connect my outboard preamps to it. Thanks! |

| I have run Grace 101 pres and an Avalon U5 into the R16...it's fine. You get what you pay for. There are trade-offs, but I like mine for what it is...a cheap, high utililty digital multitrack recorder...excellent for spur of the moment song demos; a cheap insurance policy for location recording (I use mine as a backup)...if you're into nit-picking about things, then this unit probably isn't for you. I'm busy and an audio veteran...the R16 helps me get things done. |

| Love mine to death. The quality is great, and that's with the on board mics. I haven't even used an outboard pre with it, but I can imagine that it would sound even better. Have no fear in getting one. I still marvel at mine after having it a couple weeks. It's light as a feather, 16 tracks at 24 bit, usb plugs right up to the computer as a card reader and you drag your project folders over for storage on DVD's or CD's, hook it up and use it as a soundcard too, it's really incredible. |

| Check out this thread: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-e...-opinions.html Quite long and informative. I've got one myself but havn't tried it with outboard pre's. I've recorded a six mic drumkit + bass (hi-Z input) and guitar all at once, all in 24-bit... it's awesome and very easy to use. Except for one thing. I spend quite a while reading manual trying to figure out how to save a project - I still don't know how to do this but it does save your work when you use the protect function. Oh yeah, one more thing - it fits beautifully in my backpack thumbsup |

| Same here. I thought I'd never own a digital recording device, yet there I am praising this little thing, only two weeks after buying it! BRAVO ZOOM!
